Q. What is San Diego Hills?
A. San Diego Hills is a private cemetery. However, we call it San Diego Hills
Memorial Park because it is different from all other cemeteries found in
Indonesia today.
Q. How different is San Diego Hills from all the cemeteries in Indonesia?
A. San Diego Hills is modeled after the world-famous “Forest Lawn Memorial
Parks” in the United States. It offers families burial property never before
seen in Indonesia, but which are popular in Canada and the United States. These
include single spaces, private estates, and peak estates on the top of the
hills. Soon San Diego Hills will be the first memorial park in Indonesia to
construct a community mausoleum for those who prefer above-ground entombment.
Columbaria will be built, for the inurnment of cremated remains. San Diego
Hills will also be the first combination cemetery-funeral home in Indonesia.
This cemetery has been built to look more like a park than a cemetery – it has
green, rolling hills, beautiful landscaping, state-of-the-art facilities,
concrete roads. It is the first memorial park of its kind in Indonesia.
Q. I hear you even have a recreation area in San Diego Hills, can you tell us
about this?
A. San Diego Hills is the first memorial park in the world that also has a
Family Center on the grounds. The family center is made up of several
facilities and amenities, which include:
1. a chapel where you can have funeral services or even
weddings;
2. a convention building for private functions such as
meetings, dinner-dances, or fashion shows.
3. The Family Center also has a 200-seat Imperial Aryaduta
restaurant with an Italian cuisine;
4. a flower and gift shops;
5. an 8-hectare man-made lake where people can row boats;
6. a swimming pool, basketball courts, soccer field;
7. gardens where we can have outdoor open-air performances;
8. soon we will be building a retreat house and dormitory;
Q. How do you reconcile a cemetery, or memorial park, with this idea of a family recreation center?
A. San Diego Hills is a beautiful, permanent, final resting place for our departed loved ones. It is also a place of comfort and respite
for those who are left behind. It is a sanctuary where the solemnity of death and the sanctity of life are co-celebrated. It
affords the people of Indonesia with a modern-day experience which we predict will be emulated by cemeteries in other countries.
Q. Who are the people behind this project?
A. The developer is Lippo Karawaci. As you know, Lippo Karawaci
built the towns of Lippo Karawaci and Lippo Cikarang. They gave Indonesia the Siloam Hospitals, the Imperial Aryaduta hotels and restaurants. Lippo Karawaci was voted Best Developer in Indonesia for the year 2005 by Euromoney, and Most Admired Developer in Indonesia for the year 2006.
Q. When will San Diego Hills Memorial Park open its doors?
A. San Diego Hills will formally launch its sales campaign in January, 2007. However, a lot of families have already been
going to Karawang to see this site, as the word has already gotten out about how beautiful this cemetery is.
Q. Where is San Diego Hills located?
A. San Diego Hills has 500 hectares in Karawang Barat. It is strategically located near the Karawang Barat Tol, which is
midway between Jakarta and Bandung. From the highway you can take the Km 46 exit and go south. The cemetery is very
accessible from the highway.
Q. How does San Diego Hills expect to serve the Indonesian people?
A. There is a growing scarcity of burial spaces in cemeteries that are located in Jakarta. San Diego Hills aims to satisfy the
population’s needs for burial spaces. Also, San Diego Hills is open to All Faiths: we have burial gardens for the Muslim
community, complete with a mushollah; we have burial gardens for the Buddhist community, where they can build their bongpai;
and we have burial gardens for the Christian and Catholic communities. Our products are modern and world-class. Our prices are
